College Counseling
Welcome to the College Counseling Office website!
It is intention of this office to serve as your partner and advocate as you progress through the college search process.
The preparation for college begins upon entering The Meadows School as a ninth grade student. Each student's curriculum is carefully and individually crafted annually, establishing a foundation assuring future success in college. Faculty and college counselors, assisted by the Advisory System, guide each student at each stage of planning.
The college process at TMS begins in earnest in September of the junior year. A series of meetings, assignments, and workshops, both individual and group, are offered throughout the year to keep each student informed and on schedule. This website is designed to complement the counseling process and should be referred to frequently to stay in touch with the ever-changing landscape of college admissions (trends and issues), keep an eye on important events and dates of interest, monitor the college representative visit schedule, learn about scholarship opportunities, explore summer opportunities for learning and personal growth, or seek answers from the experts to the myriad questions students or their families may have.
As students and parents are counseled through this very exciting time, The Meadows approach has and will continue to be serving the students' best interests, with emphasis on finding good matches. A group of colleges is identified for each student based on where his or her interests and talents will be developed fully. This is not accomplished quickly or without energy and considerable effort. Students and parents are encouraged to be active participants in the counseling program and to treat the search process as they would any long-term research project -- give it regular attention and re-examine objectives frequently.
Over the years The Meadows School has achieved an impressive college acceptance record. Over 30 percent of the School's graduates in the past three years have enrolled at the top 70* colleges and universities in the country. By providing accessibility, skilled counseling, and appreciable experience and expertise, students and parents are empowered in making informed decisions in identifying colleges and universities where they will find their "right fit."
* Top 70 colleges and universities as noted by Barron's Profile of American Colleges, 26th edition.
