Art

The teaching of art is incorporated in classroom activities.  Skills taught include:

Drawing and painting from imagination.

Use of varied media.

Teacher-directed activities building solid foundation in       listening, following directions, and fine motor skills.

Citizenship

The citizenship program emphasizes internalization of the concepts of respect for self and others, including courtesy, kindness, and responsibility for oneself.

Language Arts

The language arts program is unique and carefully designed to emphasize phonics and vocabulary concepts.  This program includes:

Identification of letters and sounds.

Learning and acting out nursery rhymes.

Development of listening skills.

Introduction to reading.

Mathematics

The mathematics program stresses number recognition, logical thinking skills, and conceptual understanding.  This program includes:

• Counting to 100.
• Reading and writing numbers to ten.
• Calendar skills:  months, days.
• Money:  pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters.
• Patterns and sequencing.

Music

The music program integrates speech, song, instrumental play, and creative dramatics.  Creative thinking is encouraged through improvisation.  This program includes:

Creative movement.

Songs and dance.

Class performances.

Singing and movement games.

Physical Education

The physical education program encourages development of physical, mental, and emotional fitness.  The program includes:

• Body part identification.
• Directionality.
• Manipulative skills.
• Performing sequenced auditory instructions.
• Introduction to organized games.

Science

Science skills are integrated into thematic units such as plant growth, cooking, and animals, as well as the human body.  Basic science skills taught include:

Observation.

Classification.

Measurement.

Social Studies

The social studies program is a study of the world around us and includes:

• Our community.
• The child's world.
• Holidays.
• Animals: domestic and wild.
• Our western home.

Spanish

The Spanish program is integrated into the basic curriculum and includes:

Basic vocabulary.

Numbers.

Colors.

Body parts.
