Clubs & Activities
While The Meadows School emphasizes academics, clubs and social activities play an important role in balancing the lives of students. At The Meadows, students have the opportunity to participate in a plethora of clubs and activities to help stimulate their social development and prepare them for life beyond high school.
Some of the clubs they may participate in include:
- Asian Culture Club
- Forensics Club
- French Club
- Hiking Club
- Key Club
- Make-a-Wish Club
- Mock Trial
- National Honor Society
- National Spanish Honor Society
- Newspaper
- Science Bowl
- Shakespeare Club
- Spanish Club
- String Ensemble
- UN Club
- Varsity Quiz
- Yearbook
Below are brief explanations of two clubs offered:
- The Mock Trial team prepares for a state-wide competition in which each school presents the same case. The team prepares both the prosecution and defense sides of a case then competes against other high schools in Nevada.
- The Make-a-Wish Club raises money for the local chapter of the Make-a-Wish Foundation. The most successful fundraisers have been the "babysitting nights" designed for Lower School students.
Clubs are not the only way students can have organized fun at The Meadows School. Other activites include Homecoming Week. A different activity is planned for each day of the week culminating with the football game on Friday evening and the dance on Saturday. In addition to the Homecoming dance, the School hosts Sadie Hawkins, Girls' Reverse, and Prom. Chinese New Year is celebrated with a week of acitivites including a colorful Chinese New Year parade. These are but a few of the activities which the School sponsors through out the year.
Events that occur on a regular basis are assemblies and Town Hall meetings. Assemblies generally take place in the auditorium of the Center for the Arts and feature a variety of topics. For example, there was an interactive assembly featuring exotic animals of South America. Students not only learned about the animals but were able to handle them as well. During Chinese New Year week Shao Lin Priests, drummers, and other acrobats performed.
Town Hall meetings generally occur twice a week and give the students an opportunity not only to make announcements, but also to voice their opinions on issues that face the School community.
