Rebecca C., an eighth grade student at TMS, has been notified that she is the winner on the Middle School Level for a nation-wide essay contest sponsored by the Association for Applied and Therapeutic Humor (AATH) in New Jersey. In a letter sent to The Meadows School this week, the President of AATH advised Rebecca that there were many entries and the selection of the winner was a difficult process.
This essay contest asked students of all ages to discuss the importance of humor and describe a time when laughter helped to ease a difficult, frightening, or sad situation. Rebecca's essay was one of over sixty eighth grade essays submitted by English teacher Rebecca Reeder-Hunt who assigned the topic for a required writing assignment earlier this School year. Middle School students were limited to 400 words or less.
