The Library of Congress's Center for the Book announced that Amanda M. '12 is the middle school level winner for the entire state of Nevada in their nationwide essay contest. This year there were 59,000 entries from students in all 50 states.
Amanda entered the contest in mid-October along with her other 59 classmates as part of an essay writing assignment in Mrs. Reeder's eighth grade English class. Students were required to discuss a literary work of their choice from any genre. The only stipulation was that their essays had to focus on the noteworthy aspects which created a lasting impact and conveyed an important lesson about life. Her essay has advanced to the next round of intense, national competition for the opportunity to be named one of three winners in the nation. We are proud of her accomplishment in this prestigious writing competition!
In addition to Amanda, six Meadows students placed in the state semi-finals. Only 34 middle school students in the entire state were named semi-finalists.
