2008 Spring Track Season Preview by Arturo M. '12
The track season is off on the right foot; everything is going nicely. We have many coaches helping us with different events. Coach Anthony Riga helps us work on our speed and is our sprint coach. Coach Kenny Cartledge is the head coach as well as the distance coach. Coach I.J. Gorman helps us with throws and jumps. Coach Stephanie Heller helps us with the high jump and the long jump. All of the coaches show us a variety of great techniques and different ways to accomplish each event. One of the students, Garrett G. '12, is very good at the distance events. As he continues to work harder, he can surely place highly at the Faith Track Meet on April 26. Max N. '12 is very good at sprinting and the high jump. Elie S. '12 is one of the best jumpers on the team, and Arturo M. '12 has shown the most promise at the discus. Hannah B. '12 is one of the best all-around athletes in her class. We are hoping to win many events for the School.
2008 Spring Tennis Season Preview by Logan L. '12
Tennis has been a popular choice for spring sports at The Meadows. The School has a record 36 students out for the team. We also boast some of the most experienced and best tennis coaches in Las Vegas, including Tim Blenkiron and Marty Hennessy. This year's tennis program is off to a great start. Members are taught several different complex techniques, using a variety of fun and constructive games. The practices are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. The School will host the RRAC invitational tennis tourney on May 3.
2008 Spring Golf Season Preview by Ameer K. '12
This year many things have improved for golf. Angel Park has allowed over 20 Meadows athletes to participate on a weekly basis at their facility. In the years past there have been only 6-8 athletes on the team. We have the opportunity to work with Coach John Ramsey, a PGA pro for over 40 years. We also work with Coach I.J. Gorman, the Middle School Athletic Coordinator, who has coached golf for several years at the college level. The team is comprised of sixth, seventh, and eighth graders. In previous years the team consisted of mainly eighth graders. This bodes well for the future of the Upper School golf program. The Upper School has a rich tradition in golf, capturing five of the six previous year's state 2A titles and the first Nevada team to win five consecutive state titles. Each week we work on one of three activities, either playing Cloud 9, the 9 hole executive course to work on match etiquette and score; working on the 18 hole putting-course, or working on consistency at the driving range. We will compete in the Las Vegas Day School tourney on May 13.
