K-12 Division Richard L. '12 took first place at the 2008 Nevada State Scholastic K-12 Chess Tournament in May with a perfect 5-0 score. This is the first time an eighth grade student won the tournament at the high school level in Nevada. Nevada's top finisher would normally represent the state at the Denker Tournament of High School Champions which will be held this summer in Dallas, but since Richard was not in high school at the time of the state tournament, he is not eligible to compete at Denker. He won the K-8 division in 2006 and 2007. Richard also teamed up with Sandra H. '10 to take fourth place in the K-12 team division.
K-8 Division Graham L. '18 and Tyler L. '14 placed fifth in the K-8 team division. Graham also placed ninth individually against many older competitors.
