Fifty-six students at The Meadows School have earned AP Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on Advanced Placement (AP) Exams.
The College Board's AP Program provides motivated and academically-prepared students with the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses while still in high school and to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both by successful performance on the AP Exams. About 18 percent of the more than 1.6 million students worldwide who took AP Exams performed at a sufficiently high level to earn an AP Scholar Award. The College Board recognizes several levels of achievement based on students' performances on AP Exams.
Thirteen Meadows students qualified for the National AP Scholar Award by earning an average grade of 4 or higher on a five-point scale on all AP Exams taken and grades of four or higher on eight or more of these exams. Of 300,471 AP Scholars in 2008, only 3.9 percent earned the National AP Scholar Award, with 38 of those students from Nevada.
Robert K. '08 qualified for the State AP Scholar Award. The designation of State AP Scholar is granted to the one male and one female student in each U.S. state and the District of Columbia with grades of 3 or higher on the greatest number of AP Exams taken.
Thirty-five Meadows students qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning an average grade of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. There were 315 such Scholars in Nevada in 2008.
Sixteen Meadows students qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award by earning an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams. There were 272 such Scholars in Nevada in 2008.
Thirty-three Meadows students qualified for the AP Scholar Award by completing three or more AP Exams with grades of 3 or higher. There were 818 such Scholars in Nevada in 2008.
