Upper School Theatre Recap & Mean Girls Preview
Upper School Theatre Recap & Mean Girls Preview
Greetings from the Theatre Department in the CFA! It’s been quite a year, and we are fast approaching our Spring Musical: Mean Girls. Many of you know or have heard of Mean Girls. It is a hilarious yet thoughtful journey through the trials and tribulations of high school life, and it pulls no punches. The entire theatre is bursting with excitement from performers and technicians alike, and this production is so highly anticipated, that we have added a Saturday matinee! We hope to see everyone’s wonderful faces in our audience on Friday, April 12th at 6:30 p.m. and on Saturday, April 13th at 1:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Be there! It will be so “fetch!”
Just looking back, this year has been packed with so many adventures and activities for the theatre at all grade levels. Here's a brief overview of what our theatre team has been up to:
- Year-round, Mr. Burris has been visiting the Lower School's 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classes to work on communication and public speaking skills.
- In September, Ms. Severance took students to The Leadership and Tech Conference.
- In October, the theatre team took Upper School students on a trip to the Utah Shakespeare Competition.
- In October, we had the Upper School production of King Lear.
- Also in October, Ms Dagenais and the Middle School acting class presented an original works showcase of the student-devised piece King Bob.
- We brought back the “Haunted CFA” event the week of Trunk or Treat.
- We invited Lower School students to the Black Box to watch scenes from Macbeth by the Middle School.
- In November, we presented another Middle School original works showcase of La Historia De Magnolia & Rapunzel.
- In December, the entire CFA hosted the Winter Assembly.
- Also in December, we presented the Middle School production of Charlotte’s Web.
- In January, we again took Upper School students to the Regional Thespian Competition bringing home 11 Superiors (with the highest score in Monologues and Costume Design) and the Bronze Wrench in the Tech Olympics.
- In February, we took both Middle and Upper School students to the State Thespian Conference for a variety of workshops and performances.
- In March, the Middle School stepped to the stage for another original works showcase of The Bunny and The Squirrel - A Fable.
- The Upper and Middle Schools helped with the new Mount Olympus event in the Lower School.
This is only the beginning of many great things. Each year, we will seek to add more and more opportunities to perform and create for the students of The Meadows School. Look for us all over campus and around town as we do things like visit Lower School classes. We like to help with their programs and activities, provide technical assistance, and lend guidance to all events in the CFA. Also, we help other schools by loaning sets, props, costumes, and support. Also, look for our club visits to children’s hospitals with skits and entertainment. We are even stepping beyond this and taking a group of students to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival (the largest theatre festival in the world) to perform this summer!
Look for all this and more as we continue to build the CFA offerings here at TMS, and prepare for Mean Girls in April and the Middle School production of Descendants in May.
We hope you enjoy your extra long weekend, and thank you all for your support!
Your biggest fans,
Mr. Burris, Ms. Severance, and Mrs. Dagenais
