The Meadows Upper School athletic program has soared to new heights this fall, marked by a record number of student-athletes and team offerings. Our growth is a testament to the dedicated work of our new human performance trainers, Josh Taitague and Ashley Eldridge, who have trained more students than any previous season. With their guidance, our student-athletes have reached unprecedented levels of performance.
The reigniting of our boys soccer program symbolizes our commitment to expansion and development. Its debut season after many years dormant has laid a strong foundation for the addition of a girls soccer team next year. This milestone, coupled with our facility renovations, has revolutionized our athletic experience. The new football and soccer field and the renovated baseball field now set the standard for athletic facilities in the region, and the upgraded softball fence is poised to take our program to even greater heights.
Transitioning to the 3A division, The Meadows has faced new challenges with steadfast resilience. Our student-athletes have displayed formidable strength and depth, with a combined win percentage of 73% across all teams—a remarkable feat in what was anticipated to be a rebuilding year.
Our senior athletes in particular have left a permanent mark on the program. With 10 state championships to their credit—achieved despite a year lost to the pandemic—they have set a legacy of excellence for future classes.
Let's celebrate our fall sports teams' achievements:
Girls Golf: The team continued their winning streak, securing the 3A State Championship for the third consecutive year and finishing the season undefeated. Star player Mizara Norton secured 2nd place at the state level and will graduate from The Meadows as one of the most accomplished student-athletes in school history.
Tennis: Both boys and girls teams were crowned Regional Champions and concluded the season as state runners-up in the 4A division. Sophia Yang captured her third consecutive individual State Champion title, and our boys doubles team, Ryan Zahri & Killian Seip, achieved a commendable second place at state.
Boys Soccer: The team showed promise and looks forward to a robust next season, bolstered by the talent of our returning players and rising 8th graders.
Football: Evan Baalbaky and Billy Jennings received well-deserved accolades, with Baalbaky named 1st Team All-Conference and Jennings securing a place on the 2nd Team All-Conference for the defensive line. Freshman sensation Cameron Pereira impressed with his quarterbacking prowess.
Volleyball: Our varsity team emerged as 3A Regional Champions, going on to clinch a third consecutive State Championship in a thrilling finale. The JV team's impressive record heralds a bright future for the sport at The Meadows.
Cross Country: Larissa Spinella shone brightly, taking 5th place at the state meet, and promising fresh talent suggests a strong future for our runners.
As the fall season wraps up, we applaud the hard work, dedication, and spirit of all our student-athletes and coaches. The Meadows School continues to demonstrate that through unity, resilience, and resolute Mustang spirit, we can exceed expectations and achieve greatness.
Go Mustangs!
