Robotics

Robotics gives students an opportunity to practice critical thinking, teamwork, and innovation in a competitive environment. The Meadows is one of the few schools nationwide, and the only place in Nevada, where students can participate in all three FIRST® levels of robotics, starting in fourth grade. These robotics courses provide a training ground for the future where students can hone their expertise.

Lower School Robotics

4th and 5th Grade

Our older Lower School students are welcome to take a Meadows After-School Programs (MAPS) course and become a part of our FIRST Lego League (FLL) team. At this level, students learn how to code the robot, create an innovative project, and how to work as a team. The skills they acquire in this course build their abilities and prepares them for the next level of robotics in a fun, competitive environment.

Middle School Robotics

FIRST Lego League
Our 6th grade students are able to join a FIRST Lego League (FLL) team from October until February to compete in the state competition. The team meets after school and learns how to code the robot, create an innovative project, and how to work as a team. The skills they acquire in this course build their abilities and prepare them for the next level of robotics in a fun, competitive environment.

Competitive Science
Our 7th and 8th grade students may take Competitive Science as an elective. Students are encouraged to take this course to learn how to code, build, and drive a robot that will compete in the FIRST Teach Challenge (FTC). Students will also create engineering notebooks and business plans as a team.

Upper School Robotics

Introduction to Robotics
Our 9th through 12th grade students may take Introduction to Robotics. In this course, students will learn basic skills such as coding in JAVA, CAD design, 3D printing, building with metal, and electrical work, as well as build a business plan all while competing in a fun, competitive environment. The students in this class form the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team for The Meadows School.

Advanced Robotics
Our 10th through 12th grade students may take Advanced Robotics. In this course, students will continue to build their skills such as coding in JAVA, CAD design, 3D printing, building with metal, and electrical work, as well as build a business plan all while competing in a fun, competitive environment. They serve as leaders for the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team for The Meadows School.
