Student Support Services

We have a divisional School Counselors on campus who:

• Conducts social-emotional and life skills lessons.
• Offers student check-ins.
• Hosts targeted small groups to provide support and facilitate conflict resolution.
• Works closely with administrators, Learning Specialists, Academic Coaches, teachers, outside professionals, and families.
• Consults with classroom teachers regarding social-emotional, executive functioning, and conflict-resolution support for all students.
• Completes classroom observation of students at the request of teachers, administrators, and/or parents when questions arise about social or emotional challenges or learning differences.
• Supports the implementation of the social-emotional learning curriculum.
• Provides resources and referrals when outside support is needed.

The Meadows School employs a team of an Academic Learning Specialist, Intervention Specialist, and an Academic Coach. This team:

• Consults with teachers to provide pedagogical strategies to best meet the needs of all learners.
• Assists with academic progress monitoring.
• Offers targeted pull-out and push-in intervention for individuals or small groups in the Beginning and Lower School.
• Provides targeted assistance with executive functioning skills in the Middle and Upper School (the Academic Coaches specifically).
• Connects families with tutoring support on and off campus after school.

The Student Support Services serves as a resource hub to support all areas of need. We have partnered with external speech, occupational, and physical therapists to provide services during the school day on campus. In addition, we can connect families with tutoring and other community support. Should your child need their related services, please reach out to the Director of Student Support Services or one of the SSS members.

If a student has a diagnosed learning, mental, or physical health need, the SSS team will consult with the students’ related external professionals to develop a Student Success Plan (SSP) based on their recommendations. These plans provide accommodations that allow students to access the universal curriculum.

Students with additional needs can do well at TMS if the student is mastering the curriculum with reasonable and school-approved accommodations, the relationship between the school and the family is collaborative, and the student's self-esteem is healthy and intact. Examples of reasonable accommodations (based on appropriate documentation) may include: extended time and alternate locations for testing, preferential seating, keyboarding and access to audiobooks, and note-taking assistance. Please note that with current staffing, The Meadows School may not be equipped to handle the full range of learners.
